NAEA is excited to launch Preservice Reflections: Collaborative Discussions on Insights and Applications in the Classroom. This exclusive online Mentorship Pilot Program is tailored for preservice and early career art teachers. The Preservice Reflections program will provide opportunities for collaborative discussions, insights, applications, guidance, resources, and support to Preservice and early career members as they embark on their teaching careers.

Goals:

  1. Offer preservice and early career art teachers support and guidance.

  2. Facilitate professional growth and development through mentorship and collaboration.

  3. Foster a sense of community and connection among Preservice and early career art educators.

  4. Enhance the quality of art education by sharing best practices and resources.

Program Structure:

Online Professional Development Workshops:

  • NAEA will organize three professional development Open Studio Conversations for Preservice and early career art educators. These Conversations will cover various aspects of art education and align with specific and relevant themes.
  • Preservice members will register for each Open Studio Conversation in NAEA’s Professional Learning Studio. Members will attend the live Zoom webinar or watch the recording to expand their knowledge and skills on each topic.

Online Group Reflection and Debrief Meetings:

  • Preservice members and mentors will meet online for collaborative discussions and to provide insights and applications related to the Open Studio Conversation topic.

Dates:

All meetings are held virtually from 7:00-8:00 pm ET.

SESSION 1:

  • August 22: NAEA Open Studio Conversations: Art Studio 101: Art Studio Procedures, Tips and Tricks for Back to School
  • September 24: Preservice Reflections Meeting

SESSION 2:

  • January 23: NAEA Open Studio Conversations: Student Teaching 101
  • February 4: Preservice Reflections Meeting

SESSION 3:

  • May 8: NAEA Open Studio Conversations: Art Studio 101 Series: Topic TBD
  • May 15: Preservice Reflections Meeting

The Preservice Reflections Mentorship Pilot Program aims to empower preservice and early art educators by providing them with the support, guidance, and resources they need to thrive in their profession. Through mentorship, collaboration, and professional development, this program strives to cultivate a strong community of art educators committed to excellence in teaching and learning.
