NAHS/NJAHS Logo Concept Design Competition

For more than 40 years, the National Art Honor Society programs have provided national recognition and opportunities for students who exhibit outstanding scholarship in the visual arts, and for their teachers. Participation in NAHS and NJAHS provides students, faculty, school, and community with invaluable benefits—including peer recognition, leadership growth opportunities, college and career preparation, recognition of your art program, and so much more.

About the Call:

The National Art Education Association is seeking a fresh and dynamic logo concept design for the National Art Honor Society and the National Junior Art Honor Society. The logo should represent the societies’ commitment to fostering creativity and the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service.

Design Guidelines:

  • Incorporate elements that convey art scholarship, character, and service.
  • Utilize a vibrant and contemporary color palette.
  • Ensure scalability and versatility for application across various media, including print, digital, and merchandise.
  • The design should be memorable, timeless, and easily identifiable.

Submission Requirements:

  • Participants must be members of a registered National Art Honor Society (NAHS) or National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) chapter for the 2024–2025 school year.
  • Logo submissions should be in digital format (.png or .jpeg).
  • Include a brief explanation of the concept behind the design.
  • Participants are encouraged to explore diverse visual styles and techniques.
  • Design Guidelines:
    • Color limit: 1 to 4 colors in design
    • Use solid colors, no shading or gradients
    • Do not use or reference copyrighted images
    • Less is more
    • Wording: Must include “NAHS” or “NJAHS.” Design can incorporate “National Art Honor Society” or “National Junior Art Honor Society.”

Timeline:

Submission Deadline: Friday, February 7, 2025
Winner Announcement: March 20, 2025, at the NAEA25 National Convention in Louisville, KY

Winning Design(s):

  • Will be awarded prizes, including NAHS/NJAHS merchandise, a Blick gift certificate, and more!
  • Will be shared with professional designers who will refine the designs for use in print and digital media.
  • The revised logo(s) will become the official logo of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) and/or National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS)—included on all NAHS/NJAHS materials, merchandise, communications, and more.
  • The logo(s), designer(s), and sponsor(s) will receive recognition on the National Art Honor Societies website and social media platforms.
  • The logo(s) will be revealed at the 2025 NAEA National Convention in March in Louisville, KY.
  • Will be featured in NAHS News and NAEA News.

How to Submit:

All artwork must be submitted by a registered NAHS/NJAHS Chapter Sponsor. Sponsors may submit an unlimited number of entries, one submission per student. Upload each logo design and concept explanation via this online form. Submissions must include the student’s name, contact information, school, chapter sponsor’s name, and email address.

  • Creativity and originality
  • Relevance to the NAHS/NJAHS mission and values
  • Aesthetic appeal and visual impact
  • Versatility and scalability
  • Concept explanation

To support NAHS/NJAHS sponsors, we have developed a lesson plan and a PowerPoint presentation. (You can also access these a Google Document and Google Slides). These resources can help you introduce the NAHS/NJAHS Logo Concept Design competition into your curriculum or NAHS/NJAHS meetings. Using these resources is optional and not required for competition submission.
