Art & Media Technology (AMT) Interest Group Column: Feb/Mar 2022

NAEA News Feb/Mar 2022

The columns for this issue of NAEA News were written prior to the 2022 National Convention. As such, you may find information about Convention sessions and references to past occurrences in the future tense.

The AET board has been carefully studying the new NAEA Strategic Plan and current trends in curriculum and pedagogy. In an effort to be more inclusive and to meet the needs of more members, we have made the decision to change the name of our Interest Group from Art Education Technology (AET) to Art & Media Technology (AMT). We are excited to invite more members to our group and to benefit from the expertise of our media educators. Please join our Collaborate group. We are working to provide more resources for our members—we have recently joined Constant Contact and will use it to send information on a regular basis. Watch for news of our new branding!

This is my final newsletter article as Chair, having served in this capacity for 4 years. At the end of the NAEA Convention in NYC, the group will be presided over by the multitalented Tim Needles. I want to take this opportunity to thank him publicly for his support as Chair-Elect! I also want to thank our wonderful board of directors: Kerry Parrish, Heather McCutcheon, Ryan Patton, Krisha Moeller, and Lilly Lu! In the past year, we have begun to meet monthly as a board, and this has been a great benefit as we have been able to more fully recognize the needs of our members.

We have a number of events and presentations at the Convention in NYC. Our exciting PechaKucha will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 3 pm; our annual membership meeting will be held on Friday, March 4 at 8 am; and our awards ceremony will be on Saturday, March 5 at 12:00 pm. We hope to honor our awardees and our grant recipients at the awards ceremony. Additionally, many of our members are scheduled for presentations at the Convention. Please join us for these events.

Additionally, we are holding the Multi-Caucus Reception on Friday, March 4 at 6 pm in Brooklyn in conjunction with CSTAE, the Women’s Caucus, ISAE, and CSAE. Watch Collaborate and social media for details.

Have a great Convention! See you soon!
