2022 National Leadership Conference
State Art Education Associations: Call for Presentations
State/province art education associations nurture the local and state art education community by exercising excellent governance, providing quality conferences, and impacting local and state policy issues. The NAEA National Leadership Conference (NLC) provides a unique opportunity for leaders to learn from experts as well as from one another.
The 2022 NAEA National Leadership Conference will take place July 20–23 in Park City, Utah (registration opens in January 2022). We encourage YOU to share the good work of your state/province association with other association leaders at the 2022 NLC by submitting one or more proposals for consideration.

Details:
- The six presentation topics are: Hosting a Successful State Conference; Engaging Members: Communication Strategies for Growth and Retention; Volunteer Leadership: Recruitment and Support; Getting Started With Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; Creating a Vision for the Future; and Powerful Advocacy Tips.
- Presentations are 20 minutes each, plus 10 minutes for a collective Q and A.
- 12 sessions from state art education associations will be selected, with each NAEA geographic region being represented.
- Up to three presentations can be submitted per state.
- Sessions are 50 minutes, featuring two presentations on a similar topic per session. NAEA selects the presentations that comprise a session.
- Each session will be presented two times.
- Projection and audio will be provided. However, presenters must bring their own computers and adapters.
- A collaborative planning session for presenters will be scheduled with Dennis Inhulsen, NAEA Chief Learning Officer.
- Presenters must register for the NLC.
- The deadline to submit proposals is December 22, 2021.
- Acceptance notification will be shared by January 17, 2022.
Presentation Topic Descriptions
Hosting a Successful State Conference What challenges and solutions do you encounter when planning and implementing a successful state conference? How do you organize and market your conference? How do you manage finances and record keeping? Where you find high-quality keynote speakers and presenters? How do you realize revenue building through the conference to support your association? What lessons were learned from the pandemic?
Engaging Members: Communication Strategies for Growth and Retention For members, the value of belonging is all about the community and all it offers. What strategies do you use to identify and tackle obstacles to growth and retention? What are the ways you tell the story of your association’s community and all it offers? What is your biggest membership challenge, and how are you addressing it?
Volunteer Leadership: Recruitment and Support Good governance is dependent upon association leaders who are committed to the mission and vision of NAEA and to their own leadership development. How do you encourage members to serve on the Board and assume leadership roles and responsibilities? How do you help the Board members grow their leadership skills? How do you ensure a healthy turnover in leadership through succession planning?
Getting Started With Equity, Diversity and Inclusion State associations are quickly and passionately establishing Board positions supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion for members, colleagues, and students. What steps did your association take to establish a leader for ED&I? What support systems are in place to help Liaisons in tandem with the NAEA ED&I Commission? What training and resources are you using to plan forward with ED&I?
Creating a Vision for the Future Leadership requires both vision and presence. How do you embrace strategic planning that addresses both long-range and short-term priorities? Do you have a road map for the future? How does your strategic plan dovetail with the NAEA Strategic Vision? What are ways that you developed a strategic plan? How to you track progress along the pathway of your strategic vison?
Powerful Advocacy Tips Advocating learning in art is for all of us! How does your organization advocate for art education and your members? How many different ways does your organization promote art education and when? What resources and training do you use to advocate art education? How does your organization tell your story?
