Mario Rossero, NAEA Executive Director Named as Director of The Andy Warhol Museum

January 8, 2025

Mario Rossero, NAEA Executive Director, will complete his successful 5-year tenure with NAEA on March 31, 2025, as he takes on the role of Director of The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Rossero began his career in arts education at The Andy Warhol Museum as an artist–educator and is excited for this full-circle moment to return to the institution in a leadership capacity.

During Rossero’s role at NAEA, the Association has remained strong and vibrant—weathering the many implications of the pandemic; maintaining a community of more than 15,000 art educators and 50,000 National Art Honor Societies students; successfully hosting NAEA’s first fully virtual National Convention; committing to a powerful 5-year Strategic Vision with a particular focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I); launching a Task Force on Art Teacher Recruitment & Retention, creating strong recommendations to support the future of the field; comprehensively updating Association policies to be more inclusive and accessible; securing and leading a game-changing federal grant, The Connected Arts Networks (CAN) project; and launching a multi-art-form Arts Alliance focused on strengthening national advocacy for arts education.

“I have been so proud to be a part of this amazing community, serving as NAEA Executive Director, and for all that we’ve accomplished together! I would like to express my immense gratitude for the commitment of the NAEA staff, Board, volunteer leaders, and members. As a former prek–8 art teacher and a lifelong advocate for visual arts, design, and media arts education it’s been an honor to serve in this role for the Association. Championing and collaborating with the hardest working educators and leaders in the field has been such a valuable experience that will continue to inspire my work in the future.” —Mario Rossero

Prior to Rossero’s departure at the end of March, the NAEA Board of Directors and Executive Team staff will collaborate on a detailed transition plan for the organization, including the search process for the next NAEA Executive Director.

“On behalf of the NAEA Board of Directors, we congratulate Mario on his new role as the Director of The Andy Warhol Museum. We value his leadership, vision, and commitment to our NAEA community. We are confident that he will continue to do great things for the field on this next leg of his professional journey.” —Wanda B. Knight, NAEA President
