The National Art Education Association (NAEA) is pleased to welcome Paula Liz (she/her/ella) as the Youth and Preservice Program Manager. Through this role, Paula Liz will work closely with NAEA’s National Art Honor Societies and the NAEA Preservice Division (college/university student members studying to become visual arts educators) to increase engagement and develop programming to support visual arts, design, and media arts education; as well as creative career pathways.

“As the inaugural Youth and Preservice Program Manager for the National Art Education Association, I’m excited to cultivate a transformative experience for young artists and aspiring educators. With this new role, I hope to nurture and amplify the voices of this next generation of members as they create a lasting impact on the vibrant art education landscape,” says Paula Liz.

Born in Puerto Rico and raised near Baltimore, Maryland, Paula Liz attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, receiving her BFA in Painting and MAT in Art Education. She has over a decade of teaching experience at public, independent, and charter schools in New York; Texas; Washington, DC; and Maryland. Also bilingual, she recently taught elementary art at a two-way immersion school, and she was named Maryland Art Educator of the Year in 2022. Outside the classroom, Paula Liz is the founder of Anti-Racist Art Teachers.
