Shaping the Future—Together: Getting to Know Executive Director Laura. L. Lott

Earlier this year, NAEA leadership was pleased to announce the appointment of Laura L. Lott to Executive Director. With her new role, Lott oversees all aspects of the organization, bringing her experience and insight to guide NAEA’s strategy, advocacy and policy work, research, and professional learning. With her first NAEA National Convention as Executive Director now behind her, it has been a very busy start to Lott’s journey thus far. In this edition of NAEA News, we offer an in-depth Q and A as Lott shares her enthusiasm and excitement for working with art teachers, museum educators, school leaders, researchers, policy makers, and allies across the arts sector.

Secondary Division: Staying Connected

Spring is here and it means several things for me (and for many of us). A personal favorite spring activity is gardening. I’m getting ready to start my seeds indoors before it’s warm enough to move them outside. Gardening is my creative space. I enjoy watching my plants grow and photographing them in various stages. It’s a time for hope as I look forward to warmer weather.

It’s also art show season. Many of our art shows highlight our hard work through the student work that we display near the end of the school year. There is great excitement among students, and we can use this time to reflect on the year and let our students know we see them. I use art show season as a time to brainstorm new ideas for the next school year.
