From NAEA President Cindy Todd: Lead the Charge for Change

For several years, education has been under attack from many directions. Recently, the federal Department of Education has been ravaged, possibly closed for good. Funding for the arts has been cut or eliminated, and the teaching profession itself has been vilified. I know that many of you are overwhelmed; you need a champion and think you are not qualified to lead the charge for change. But you are uniquely qualified to be that champion. Art teachers don’t have all of the answers—maybe we don’t have any—but we do thoroughly understand the problem-solving process. It is what we do and teach all day in the art room. Whether you realize it or not, you consistently engage in design thinking, and you can apply its steps and processes to any and all wicked problems.
