Call for Submissions

Art Education is now accepting manuscripts for a special issue publishing in July 2025, “A Call for Counteraction: Reclaiming Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Art Education.”

Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts on the following topics:

  • Curriculum as an act of care for racial minority and LGBTQIA+ students and teachers
  • Finding alternative ways to teach about race, gender, sexuality, and intersectionality in schools amid the backlash
  • Challenging the idea of inclusion in art education curriculum that overemphasizes the experiences of a particular racial or ethnic group, which perpetuates racialization
  • School policy interventions by parents and/or students to advocate for DEI
  • Challenging recent rebranding of DEI offices and programs in higher education, such as “inclusive excellence,” “community, engagement and belonging,” and so on that dilutes the purpose of DEI initiatives
  • Art practices that help sustain the lives and well-being of minoritized students and faculty amid the DEI backlash
  • Art-based resistance to book bans that censor teaching about race and sexuality
  • Art-based resistance to Don’t Say Gay policies in schools

Submissions are due December 31, 2024. Download complete details here.
