National Convention Program Coordinator Application

NAEA Members are invited to apply for the volunteer position of National Convention Program Coordinator

NAEA seeks applications from members interested in serving as National Convention Program Coordinator. Designed by members for members, the NAEA National Convention provides a broad range of professional learning opportunities to inform, inspire, and compel exemplary professional practice. Recognized as the premier professional development experience for visual arts educators, the NAEA National Convention orchestrates a constellation of learning experiences that exemplify timely research and practice across the field.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the National Convention Program Coordinator include bringing both vision and concept to the planning of the Convention program that advances NAEA’s mission and enhances the member experience. He/she works closely with NAEA staff and the local planning team from April 1 through March 31 to develop and execute the vision for this experience.

This prominent volunteer position requires a commitment of time and energy before and during the Convention, including an estimated 3 – 5 hours per month for planning activities and conversations; attending a 2-day face-to-face planning meeting hosted in the convention city during the preceding summer; writing a bi-monthly update for NAEA News, and welcoming all participants onsite at a Convention General Session. The National Convention Program Coordinator will also work with NAEA leaders to help appoint reviewers for certain proposal categories.

Knowledge and skills required for the NAEA National Convention Program Coordinator:

  • Creative/visionary
  • Aware of contemporary issues in the field
  • Able to set and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills

It is also helpful to have a network of contacts to secure keynote speakers.

NAEA reimburses the National Convention Program Coordinator for hotel, travel, and per diem for the spring/summer planning meeting the year before the Convention and during the National Convention that he/she is Coordinator for. He/she is responsible for their own Convention registration.

All members who meet the criteria are invited to apply by October 1. After careful review of all applications, the National Convention Program Coordinator is appointed by the NAEA President and notified by November 30.
