Mary Ann Stankiewicz is professor of art education at the Pennsylvania State University and a former president of the NAEA. She coordinated art education programs at the University of Maine and California State University, Long Beach; and was an independent scholar and consultant, assistant vice president for academic affairs at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Florida, and a program officer with the Getty Center for Education in the Arts.
Her research on art education history and policy has been published in major professional journals and funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Spencer Foundation and the Oregon Center for the Humanities, among others. Roots of Art Education Practice, a history of art education for K–12 art teachers, was published in 2001. Mary Ann has presented at local, state, national and international conferences. A past president of NAEA's Women's Caucus, she edited Art Education, the NAEA journal, from 1996 to 1998. She is an NAEA Distinguished Fellow and recipient of the June King McFee award from the NAEA Women's Caucus. During her 2007–2008 sabbatical, she began work on a critical history of Massachusetts College of Art + Design.
