Highlights from the July Meeting of the NAEA Board of Directors

The Board considered and took action on the following motions:

Motion 1 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White, seconded by Myrna Clark to approve the Consent Agenda as follows:

Schedule of Activities and Meeting Agenda
April 2009 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
Board Meeting Dates (Fall 09/Summer 10)
Ratification of 2010 Nominating Committee
Ratification of Art Education Associate Editor and Editorial Review Board

Motion 2 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White, seconded by Larry Barnfield to approve the Ratification of Purposes, Principles, and Standards for School Art Programs Revision Committee (attached) and the Ratification of NAEA Awards Program Review Committee (attached) and as altered.

Motion 3 was MOVED and CARRIED by Bonnie Rushlow, seconded by Diane Scully that language for the Professional Materials Committee section of the NAEA Policy Manual be revised as presented.

Motion 4 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White, seconded by Debbie Greh to accept language to the Publication of Board Action/Distribution of Board Meeting Minutes section of the NAEA Policy Manual as presented: “Minutes shall be kept of all Board meetings and a summary of actions taken by the Board shall be communicated and made available to the membership through the website.” 

Motion 5 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White, seconded by Debbie Greh to accept language to the Organizational Planning section of the NAEA Policy Manual as presented: “The NAEA Board of Directors shall regularly engage in strategic planning to review NAEA’s mission, to ensure a relevant organizational vision and to identify organizational goals.

Motion 6 was MOVED and CARRIED by Myrna Clark, seconded by Lesley Wellman to remove “the formation of Elementary Art Clubs” from the NAEA Policy Manual and to create a Position Statement to recognize that NAEA is supportive of elementary schools having art clubs.

Motion 7 was MOVED and CARRIED by F. Robert Sabol, seconded by Debbie Greh to accept the appointment of Kim Huyler Defibaugh to the PMC for the period 2009 through 2013.

Motion 8 was MOVED and CARRIED by Myrna Clark, seconded by Bob Sabol to accept the Chief Executive Assessment Summary Report as presented.

Motion 9 was MOVED and CARRIED to ratify acceptance of the financial and investment reports as presented and recommended by the Finance Committee.

Motion 10 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White, seconded by Diane Scully, to approve the newly established College Art Association annual affiliation fee ($300).

Motion 11 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White, seconded by Debbie Greh, to ratify the appointment of regional directors for Higher Education, Supervision and Administration, and Museum.

Motion 12 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White seconded by Bob Reeker to accept the understanding and platform statements for “Students” as amended. 

Motion 13 was MOVED and CARRIED by John Howell White, seconded by Diane Scully to accept the understanding and platform statements for “Art Educators” as presented.  

Motion 14 was MOVED and CARRIED by Dennis Inhulsen, seconded by Bonnie Rushlow to accept the understanding and platform statements for “Relationships” as presented. 

Motion 15 was MOVED and CARRIED by Dennis Inhulsen, seconded by Diane Scully to accept the “Process for the Development, Adoption, and Review of Position Statements” as presented. 

Motion 16 was MOVED and CARRIED by Myrna Clark, seconded by Lesley Wellman to approve production of a special September issue of the Journal of Art Education to focus on art education and social justice; and to implement the redesign of Studies in Art Education.

Motion 17 was MOVED and CARRIED by Dennis Inhulsen, seconded by Bob Sabol, to accept the Distinguished Fellows Advisor Network Proposal as a valuable new benefit to members.
